And welcome to the Let’s Eat, Grandma Career Warrior Podcast. My name is Chris Villanueva, I’m the founder and CEO of Let’s Eat ,Grandma resume service. We help mid to senior level professionals land their dream jobs, and today we are here with a resume trick that will not only save you time in your job search, but help you land at that dream job faster. We’ve employed this strategy at Let’s Eat, Grandma. It takes some time to finesse, but it’s something that I believe all of us should implement to really make sure that we are taking full advantage of our resumes here.
Chris Villanueva 00:40
I just want to give a quick shout out to a former teacher of mine who actually ended up using our service, Mrs. Richard, because I can never call you by your first name, Tammy or Tamara. That would be disrespectful. But shout out to Mrs. Rashard for landing her dream job, which enabled her to move closer to her daughter. I just was blown away by this testimonial that I received. Actually wasn’t expecting it at all, but she says in all caps, the results were incredible.
Chris Villanueva 01:18
I immediately used the newly created resume and I got hits on every job I applied for. Interviews were scheduled. I felt so energized from all the positivity. This attention was above and beyond what I was expecting. My confidence level increased and I was so grateful. I then was offered a position that I consider to be a perfect fit for my skills and years of experience.
Chris Villanueva 01:28
So congratulations on landing that position here. I know it may have been a while ago, but I owe you this shout out and we are so proud and honored to have helped you, Mrs. Richard. So thanks.
Chris Villanueva 01:40
Today we’re going to talk about a trick that we have employed at our service. We don’t always use this sometimes this stylistic thing, but I’m a big believer in someone who pushes this. Now, I will prompt this trick by leading off with a hypothetical here. So imagine you are moving from San Francisco to San Antonio. You’re tired of the tech grind. There’s a baby on the way, and you have lived in a tiny shack with screaming people and car horns constantly outside your apartment. I’ve been there before. It’s not easy. The one thing that you’re looking forward to is more space peace in a backyard retreat that can catch your attention.
Chris Villanueva 02:18
Then you’re scrolling through Facebook and you’re hit with an ad and it says, escape to your private sanctuary, 4,000 square foot home in San Antonio with your own backyard oasis. Boom. It’s almost as if Facebook has been spying on you on your search history. But anyway, it’s something that was perfectly relevant for you and all of a sudden you feel like, oh my gosh, a half to half this house your resume headline, the thing that sits at the very top of your resume is the one trick that I’m going to call your attention out to today to help you to save time in your job search and move forward, and I’m going to explain how in just a second here, I’m going to quote the famous marketing legend, David Ogilvy. He’s one of the mad admin in history who is just an absolute, absolute legend.
Chris Villanueva 03:12
He says, on average five times as many people read the headline as the body copy, when you have written your headline, you have spent 80 cents out of your dollar. So why not employ the same trick in your resume in a world where people are honestly not reading your entire resume, they’re just looking for a few key words or phrases here for them to find the perfect match.
Chris Villanueva 03:35
The resume headline is a trick that the resume writing industry has been using for a long time to call attention to the fact that you are a perfect match and heck, you got to read this resume. I’m going to talk about how this helps save time. But more reasons why a headline should be used is it saves time for the recruiters.
Chris Villanueva 03:53
Again, people are spending seconds on your resume, not much time reading much at all. So you can get to the point and get people to initially start looking at that document by including something at the top.
Chris Villanueva 04:06
Imagine private label manager space boosted sales by 35% through strategic product development or category manager launch 20 plus high margin private label products. This is something that is going to save time for you because you can put the focus on a single part of your resume to tailor it to the job posting. You don’t have to flip the entire resume on its head and write the whole thing over. You can call out the attention to the very top, the thing that people are going to pay the most attention to. So most people in 2025 are not doing this. I know because I review thousands of resumes in the last couple of years, and I’ll tell you that in most people are not doing this. If they are doing it, it’s not attention to grabbing enough.
Chris Villanueva 04:52
So what I would say is put some time and consideration into the thing that is your special value proposition, the thing that can really set you apart from all the other thousand resumes that you’re going to be competing against.
Chris Villanueva 05:06
So how do you come up with a headline? You’re going to want to consider where you’re going and what your main advantages are to come up with a good mix. Things to consider are the position title that you are applying for or accomplishments that you’ve been able to affect in the last five, 10 years. And again, think specificity, think relevance here. The number of years doesn’t matter here, but you want to make sure that it’s relevant and attention grabbing. Or maybe it’s the amount of experience that you bring that you have to bring to the table for this next position.
Chris Villanueva 05:38
You’re going for an example, I’m rolling with the same procurement example, but procurement director space managed 50 million operations, reducing costs by 15%, or retail product director, expanded category offerings driving $5 million in revenue growth. One thing that I would call attention to is think about the scope of the position you’re going to be applying for $5 million is too much or too little that I might want to consider another number to include. But again, with this, you’re trying to show relevance as well as something that is so unique to you that it cannot be replicated here.
Chris Villanueva 06:20
Think if you are out in a cocktail party and somebody stands on the table and clinks that glass and says, everybody, I have something crazy I want to show you. You imagine everyone in the cocktail party is going to stop what they’re doing and pay attention to that one person. And then of course you have to follow up with something amazing and that’s what your resume is. But you need to call out attention on your document here. Alright, one question you may have is, how long should my headline be? And I’ve given a few examples here, but if it looks good on an ad, I would say use it.
Chris Villanueva 06:52
This is something that is a phrase, maybe less than 10 words. If something that you have that sounds good, runs a little bit too long, you could use a headline at the top that’s short. So private label manager with 20 plus years of experience, and at the bottom you could put a sub headline with certain keywords or accomplishments that could fit the job posting. Again, this saves you time because this is what you’re going to put a lot of time and emphasis on as you were sending this thing out to specific job postings and not changing the entire thing.

I hope this was helpful. I would love you as a listener to connect with me on LinkedIn. I think that as we do these Monday episodes over and over again, I think the sense of connection is just so important as we lose touch, I think, in this AI driven world and sending our resume online to these job postings. So yes, be online, but also make sure to connect one-on-one with a human, and I would love to have that connection with you.
