Here at Let’s Eat, Grandma, we’re extremely proud of our talented and diverse team of professional resume writers.
That’s why we started this series, where our Managing Editor sits down with each one to discuss their background, motivation, and what they love best about writing resumes.
This month, we talked to Kate, a resume writer who has been writing for Let’s Eat, Grandma since 2021.
Hi, Kate! How long have you been working for Let’s Eat, Grandma? Why did you decide to apply to become a Let’s Eat, Grandma resume writer?
I have been with the LEG team since April 2021. LinkedIn helped me find this job, which I am extremely grateful for. By that time, I didn’t know much about the company, but the people I initially met were unlike people at all other places I worked at. What stood out from day one is the atmosphere of teamwork despite being virtual and geographically dispersed. LEG has a reputation of the leading resume writing company, but these great talents and good people also make it a great place to work.
How long have you been working as a professional resume writer? Why did you decide to start working in this field?
I have been working in resume writing since May 2017. A friend of mine asked me to work on her friend’s resume to ensure it fitted the requirements of their dream role. I did that, this person landed that role, and it was a turning point. However, when I think of it more, it all started with my desire to be a writer when I was a kid. I wanted to write about people and make their stories heard. Now it feels like this is exactly what I do at LEG. After all, this is what a resume is used for: to tell an individual’s story, build their professional profile, and make them a valuable asset for the company of interest.
What’s your favorite part about resume writing at Let’s Eat, Grandma?
My favorite part about the whole resume writing process is a video call. I can’t imagine any other circumstances under which I would get to meet all these wonderful people who have been my clients. I have had chats with professionals in marketing, construction, medical, creative, IT, chemical, and many other industries. Another favorite part is seeing a return customer notification or getting to know the client landed their dream job. This is a confirmation of the success of our collaboration.
What is the most challenging part about resume writing?
The most challenging part of this job is to understand exactly what the client expects. As a writer, you should be ready that the document you create looks perfect in terms of ATS and standards but just doesn’t resonate with the client. Quite often, it’s just a little thing that needs to be changed to meet these expectations, but finding this key is a bit of a trouble. In any case, communication is crucial. Writers need to be able to build a connection with clients to work together on expectations, misconceptions, and, sometimes, mistakes. Lots of editing, changes, restructuring, and rewriting should be something that every new resume writer should be prepared for.
Do you have any hobbies? What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not writing resumes 🙂
My hobby is painting by numbers. I’m not a painter in a traditional way, but I definitely consider making art a good way to relax. That being said, I switch on my favorite TV series, make a cup of black tea, and choose a beautiful landscape to paint. Needless to say, my mom is the biggest fan of my work:)
What advice can you give for anyone considering purchasing a resume writing service and working with a professional resume writer?
I strongly believe that everyone can write their own resume. Just as everyone can fix a broken pipe at home. YouTube and other resources have explicit directions on how modern resumes should look like, as well as on how plumbers do their job.
However, most people would agree that talking about ourselves, putting all those great accomplishments into words, or, on the contrary, fishing out noteworthy achievements from a pool of great work is not an easy task. Here at LEG, we listen (or read), analyze, and perfect materials clients provide to us, leveraging the knowledge of what the market wants. We track trends, exchange info, and use our community to find the best way possible to communicate your strengths. Your resume is never a work of one person, it’s always a result of brainstorming.
If you have just one shot with your dream job, and you don’t want to lose it, or if you want a strong resume that speaks for itself, this is exactly what we specialize in.
