Hi, Will! How long have you been working for Let’s Eat, Grandma? Why did you decide to apply to become a Let’s Eat, Grandma resume writer?

I’ve been working for Let’s Eat, Grandma since 2022. Prior to that I worked as a career counselor in the Army’s Transition Assistance Program where I helped outgoing service members prepare to join the civilian workforce. One of our job readiness services was helping service members create resumes. To my surprise, helping my clients put together impactful resumes that translated their military experience into marketable skills became my favorite aspect of the job! At my wife’s encouragement, I began applying to resume writing jobs and was intrigued by LEG’s name. After researching the company, I was impressed by LEG’s dedication to personalized customer service and decided to apply. To my surprise I got a callback, and the rest is history!

How long have you been working as a professional resume writer? Why did you decide to start working in this field?

I’ve been a professional resume writer for two years. I decided to pursue resume writing because it combines my love of language and writing with my passion for helping people succeed in their professional ambitions. Nothing brings me more satisfaction than helping a client land an interview for the job of his or her choice!

What’s your favorite part about resume writing at Let’s Eat, Grandma?

I really enjoy client education and empowerment. Because the resumes I write only target one job, I feel it is extremely important to equip clients with the tools they need to modify their documents for each subsequent application. Before the intake call, I send out a redacted resume with markups and educational notes to help my clients understand each section’s specific purpose. During the intake call, I give my clients tips and tricks on how to target their resumes to different job listings. Once the package is complete, I encourage clients to contact me with any questions or concerns if they need help adjusting their products or coming up with a new job search strategy.

What is the most challenging part about resume writing?

Each resume package is like a puzzle. The challenge is to write a compelling document that matches the client to their job of choice while remaining accurate, informative, and concise. To do this well, I have to seamlessly integrate keywords from the job listing into the client’s products without relying on a simple copy-and-paste. This is still a challenge even after several years of writing, but a challenge I always enjoy and look forward to!

Do you have any hobbies? What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not writing resumes 🙂

I love to stay active! My wife and I play tennis with friends several times a week and I go to the gym almost every day. I also dabble in cartooning, read a lot (Marcel Proust is my favorite author), and collect a variety of artworks and artifacts from the Stone Age to the present. In the coming years I plan to write a book about Proust’s work and hope to take up wood carving and nature photography.

What advice can you give for anyone considering purchasing a resume writing service and working with a professional resume writer?

Research what a quality resume and resume writing service should look like. Go on the r/resumes subreddit and see what’s working for people and what isn’t. Go the extra mile and tailor your resume to every job that you’re applying for rather than rely on a mass application tool. Not only will tailoring the resume increase your chances of getting a callback, but it will also give you a better idea of how well you match the jobs you’re applying for in the first place. If you’re not getting callbacks or feel pressed for time, consider using a premier resume writing service like LEG that provides one-on-one customer support and guarantees you a quality resume matched to the job of choice.
